Scammers – they’ve been targeting unassuming victims for years.
One latest scam is targeting those on social media and blog sites. The Better Business Bureau is putting out a warning saying companies are asking people if they’re interested in becoming brand ambassadors or influencers for major brands. In exchange, they say you’ll get a commission, free products, and get more exposure.
But if it seems too good to be true, it most likely is.
Digital Media Strategist Kris Ruby says if a company is asking for a picture or money, don’t be fooled, and more importantly, don’t send it.
“If it’s going to be a read brand ambassador, you’re going to hear from the director of marketing or the director of public relations. If you’re not hearing from either of those people, you’re most likely dealing with a brand scam,” Ruby said.
The same advice from the Better Business Bureau, who say that victims who fell for the brand ambassador scam either never received the commission that was promised or didn’t get the exposure, but did lose money.
One way you can use your phone without getting scammed is reporting scams through the Better Business Bureau scam tracker. With just a click of a button, you can help them investigate and help others by reporting what you know.
