MADISON, Ala. — She's been a teacher since she was a teenager, and she loves what she does. Meet this week's FOX54 Top Teacher, Katy Scott from Midtown Elementary School in Madison! We take you inside her classroom, where creativity drives the learning process for students. In fact, the parent that nominated her says she’s engaging and entertaining!
Scott has been teaching for eight years, and has taught at Midtown Elementary School in Madison for three years. “I know what I'm doing and I enjoy it,” said Scott.
She’s a proud Alabama alumna. “I went to grad school at Alabama.”
Her love for teaching started when she was a student. “I started teaching Bible class at church when I was in ninth grade. So I've kind of been teaching since I was a kid.”
Scott has a connection with these kids. “When I'm in this classroom and I'm with these kids, it's just that's my comfortable spot,” said Scott.
According to her Principal Savannah Demeester, this comfortable spot is fun too. “She just draws them in with her engaging lessons. And she also really speaks to their character and really gets to the heart of each child and gets to know them. We just feel so blessed to have her at Midtown. She is a hard worker."
Scott says there is a bit of a challenge for her. “We have a great amount of planning time, so that is helpful. But it's just a lot of work.”
It’s a lot of work for Scott, but she says it’s worth it. “They want to see you and they want to learn even if they make it challenging. It's all I've ever wanted to do. I don't have any backup plan. I don't know anything else. I just am my true self when I'm in this classroom and I'm with these kids.”
