MADISON, Ala. — This teacher we're about to meet was nominated not once, but twice! One parent said she's magical. Another parent said she's kind and inspiring!
We got to see her in action and we see the reason behind those glowing words! Meet this week's Top Teacher, 2nd Grade Teacher, Kim Pratt, from Columbia Elementary School!
“She is what they call walking sunshine. So not only in her classroom, but she spreads this throughout the entire building,” said Principal Miranda Bolden.
Pratt has taught many grade levels in her thirty two years of education, and second grade takes the cake.
“Seconds my favorite. All time favorite. If I added all the years in second grade, it would be close to probably 17,” said Pratt.
Pratt has a few reasons why second grade is her favorite. "They're still young enough to where they think the world is wonderful and they love mom and dad and siblings and they love school. They love their teacher. And then they also can tie their shoes,” said Pratt.
Pratt says there’s a lot to do in her class. “We love to read. We do a lot of hands-on activities mostly, and a lot of group work.”
“The second I became a mother, I started teaching my children how I want my kids to be taught or spoken to or treated,” said Pratt.
Bolden, speaking again to Pratt's enthusiasm in the classroom, says Pratt makes her lessons worth learning. “I will say I think one thing that's very special about Miss Pratt is she always wants to make sure that the students love to come to school.”
While Pratt wants her students to learn, being a nurturer is a big part of it, too. “I became a mother, I started teaching my children how I want my kids to be taught or spoken to or treated,” said Pratt.
“You've got to love your job. You've got to love this job. I love my job so much. So much. And now here I am towards the end of my career, and it’s amazing it’s gone by so fast. It’s gone by so fast. You have to work really hard,” added Pratt.
