City of Florence launches 'Florence ROCKS!' entertainment industry COVID relief grant

FLORENCE, Ala. — The city of Florence has launched a grant program targeted at supporting the city's entertainment industry.

The "Florence ROCKS" grant program aims to provide financial assistance to local industry professionals who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Grant applications open up on March 18. Applications, which will be posted on the city's website, must be submitted via email by April 7 at 5 p.m.

Eligible industry professions and businesses include the following:

  • Recording Studio
  • Studio Musician
  • Sound Technician
  • Sound Engineer
  • Stage Hand
  • Band/Side Musician
  • Recording Artist
  • Tour Manager
  • Merchandise Manager
  • Performance Venue

When applying, you may be asked to submit additional documentation for the eligibility revue. According to the city, applicants must meet all program requirements, including all applicable state and federal regulations, to be considered for a grant.

Several criteria will be taken into consideration when determining eligibility, including the following:

  • Must be located within the city of Florence
  • Provided all required documentation on time
  • Capacity to operate in a sustainable manor
  • Proof of need
  • Impacted by policies put into place due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Job/employee retention

“'Florence ROCKS!' is presented in honor of an industry that has defined our corner of the world and to further our goal of supporting the recovery of our business community. As a special economic assistance program, 'Florence ROCKS!' aims to assist as many local entertainment industry professionals as possible with certain fixed costs, such as utilities. to help bridge the gap in an industry that continues to endure the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic," the city said in a release.
