ATHENS, Ala. — The Athens High School Homecoming parade scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday will not take place because of weather concerns.

Administrators announced that the event was canceled due to forecasts for high winds.

The parade was scheduled to begin at the high school and travel down several different roads, ending at the library.

Floats that were built for the event will be on display at Friday night's Homecoming football game, which is still scheduled for 7 p.m. Pregame activities, including a performance by the Athens High School Golden Eagle Marching Band, begin at 6:25 p.m.

Athens schools are on an early dismissal schedule for the day. Blustery weather is moving across North Alabama as former Hurricane Helene dissipates across the region.
