MADISON, Ala. — Madison residents and visitors should prepare for festivities and potential traffic disruptions Saturday evening as the city hosts its annual Christmas Parade, scheduled for 7 p.m.
The parade, themed "I'll Be Home for Christmas," will wind through downtown Madison, meaning temporary road closures that drivers should plan around. Parade units will travel east on Plaza Boulevard before turning south on Hughes Road, then finishing at the Insanity Complex, located at the intersection of Mill and Hughes roads.
City officials advise drivers to expect road closures along the 1.1-mile parade route. Alternate routes are recommended for those traveling through the downtown area during the event.
Parade participants will compete for prestigious awards, including the "Merry and Bright Award," "Holly Jolly Award," and "Committee's Choice Award," adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening's festivities.
Madison Christmas Capers will offer additional holiday cheer. The event, sponsored by the City of Madison and Madison Station Historical Preservation Society, will feature live music from the Madison Community Orchestra, complimentary hot chocolate and cookies courtesy of the Rotary Club of Madison, and extended shopping hours for downtown merchants.
It begins at 4 p.m.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to arrive early, dress warmly, and plan their routes carefully to fully enjoy Madison's holiday celebrations while minimizing traffic inconveniences.
