Operation Green Team volunteers clean and beautify Holiday Homes neighborhood

Operation Green Team gathered Huntsville community members to pick up litter around the Holiday Homes neighborhood.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Operation Green Team brought members of the community together on Saturday morning to do service around the Holiday Homes area.

Volunteers met in the parking lot of All Nations Church from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. They were given treats and refreshments before the cleaning began. People of all ages showed up to pick up litter, paint fire hydrants, and complete odd jobs needed by local homeowners.

Once Operation Green Team provided safety vests, trash bags, and litter sticks, volunteers dispersed around the neighborhood.

"There are a lot of elderly here that need our help," Operation Green Team Coordinator, David Worley said.

Operation Green Team hosts community and water cleanup events throughout the year. Volunteers are also able to plant trees and host their own cleanup events. To get involved visit Operation Green Team's Facebook.

"We're trying to do the city's work and keep all the city property clean, but also encourage the community to come together to keep their private property clean," Worley said.

Operation Green Team will make a note to host an event in an area if you witness someone littering. Collect their tag number and the make of their vehicle, then dial (256) 532-5326. They report these tips directly to Huntsville Police Department.

The next cleanup event by Operation Green Team will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 at Jones Farm Park.
