HAZEL GREEN, Ala. — A few North Alabama communities were busy on Sunday cleaning up after two tornadoes touched down on Saturday night - one in Hazel Green and another in New Market.
"I just heard wind and rain blowing against my window and then all of a sudden the power went out and it's just pure darkness and black and I was cowering in the hallway. Cause bad weather is my biggest fear and now I'm thinking, 'oh no, there's a tornado coming! All my worst fears have come true,'" said Hazel Green resident Anna Milligan.
The tornado tore through the small community of Hazel Green on Saturday night.
"Just driving down Charity Lane, you know, you'll see trees down. I saw a couple of trees down on houses, a couple of roofs look like they've blown off and you know, it's just got real nasty out here," said Huntsville Utilities linesman Collen Beard.
After realizing her worst nightmare had come true, Milligan started making discoveries one by one, like the fact that her family's shed had been destroyed in the storm.
"I saw a post on Twitter, actually. I saw pictures of it and said, 'wait a minute, that's our building,'" said Milligan. "I know that could have been such an easy thing for Mother Nature to conjure up but she decided not to, so I am really grateful, it could have been a lot worse."
Milligan said she was grateful that the storm had just barely missed her family home, only claiming their shed.
