Huntsville City Schools high schools return to staggered schedule after Thanksgiving Break

Administrators cited an increase in COVID-19 transmission rates among high school students and staffing considerations as the reasons for the change.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — High school students in Huntsville City Schools will transition back to a staggered schedule after returning from the Thanksgiving holidays beginning Monday, Nov. 30, 2020.

The district says high school students will remain on the staggered schedule until the winter holidays beginning Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020.

District leaders announced the plans during the board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020. Administrators cited an increase in COVID-19 transmission rates among high school students and staffing considerations as the reasons for returning to the staggered schedule.

The announcement applies to all high school students in HCS who are not enrolled in Huntsville Virtual Academy (HVA).

Administrators will share plans regarding learning modes for all students during the second semester prior the winter holidays. HCS will inform families of any updates.

Several Huntsville City schools temporarily returned to 100% remote leaving until November 30, when students return from Thanksgiving break.

Marshall County Schools will be 100% remote until January 5.
