Have you noticed an abnormally high utility bill lately? Huntsville Utilities has an explanation.

Huntsville Utilities says a typical billing cycle lasts 30 days, but holidays can cause them to be longer.

"In the span of a few short weeks, we had Christmas, New Years, and Martin Luther King Day. This means there some customers whose billing cycle was up to six days longer than usual," Huntsville Utilities said on a Facebook post.

If this is the case in your situation, there's some good news: Your next bill should be less, especially with February being a short month.

To determine how long your billing cycle was, take a look at your bill under the "No. Of Days" section.

Additionally, Huntsville Utilities stressed that weather plays the largest role in determining energy usage.

If you still believe your bill was too high, you can contact Huntsville Utilities at 256-535-1200 to have your bill reviewed.
