RAINSVILLE, Ala. — A customer of Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative (SMEC) has reported a potential scam telephone call from a co-op number. In response, SMEC has issued a warning urging people to use caution and avoid falling for telephone scams.
Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative is advising customers to always be suspicious of anyone calling to collect money and asking for personal information. They confirm that they do not make phone calls asking for payment of electric bills or past-due accounts, nor does it request personal financial information over the phone.
Should anyone receive a suspicious call of this nature, SMEC advises you to gather as much information as possible from the caller and contact SMEC at (256) 638-2153.
