HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — St. John Paul II Catholic High School celebrated its 25th anniversary during its kickoff weekend on Saturday, October 23.
The road to this milestone wasn't always easy. Founding Assistant Principal Georg Von Tiesenhausen said his office didn't always have electricity in it.
"I worked with a flashlight," said Von Tiesenhausen. "The telephone lines, I had to run them through the halls, and we did all this work ourselves."
Students at the school say they're grateful that the founding members paved the way for them to receive a quality education.
"It's beyond just what you do in the classroom," said student Michael Durant. "They also have fun activities like this that you can get involved in outside of the school so that you can really contribute to the community, and that's what really sets this apart."
The school hosted its "Celebrating Our Families - Family Festival" on Saturday featuring interactive children's activities, a classic car display, food trucks and performances from students.
Additionally, the school will hold its "Year for Silver Celebration" dinner on February 19, 2022, featuring celebrity chef Fr. Leo Patalinghug.
