TONEY, Ala. — The Toney Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has announced Heath Jones as its new Fire Chief.
Jones, who has been with the department since 2005, will officially assume the role on January 1, 2025, becoming the 8th Fire Chief in the department’s history.
Jones has served as the department's President since 2015. In his role as Fire Chief, Jones will oversee all operations and management of the department.
"I am honored to have been elected as the new Fire Chief for the Toney Volunteer Fire Department," Jones said. "This department has a long history of dedicated service to our community, and I look forward to building upon that legacy. My focus will be on ensuring our members have the equipment, training, and resources they need to respond effectively to emergencies and protect the well-being and safety of our community."
Jones thanked the retiring Chief, David Northcutt, who served the department for 12 years. "I want to take a moment to thank Chief Northcutt for his unwavering dedication and leadership during his time as Fire Chief. His commitment to our department and our community has set a high standard that I hope to continue to build upon in the future."
Before being elected Fire Chief, Jones held several leadership roles within the department, including Secretary, Lieutenant, and District Chief. He is a certified Fire Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician, Apparatus Operator, Water Rescue Technician, and Emergency Medical Technician.
The Toney Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department says Jones has also played a key role in securing over $1 million in grants, which have funded significant upgrades to the department's equipment, including fire suppression and vehicle extrication tools.
