TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — The Alabama men’s basketball team vaulted into the Top 10 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls, which were released Monday. The Crimson Tide checked in at No. 9 in the Associated Press Poll and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, which marks the program’s highest ranking in 14 years dating back to January of 2007.
Alabama is riding a nine-game winning streak coming into Tuesday night’s contest vs. Kentucky and owns an overall record of 13-3 this season. The Tide is in first place in the Southeastern Conference standings with a perfect 8-0 record in league play.
AP Top-25 Ranking
· The Crimson Tide remained in the top-10 that season until Jan. 26, 2007 when it dropped to No. 12 in the nation
· Alabama made the biggest leap up the poll climbing nine spots from its No. 18 national ranking a week ago, climbing nine spots this week in the AP Poll (Florida State was not ranked last week and jumped to No. 16 this week)
· Alabama is one of three SEC teams to be ranked in this week’s AP Poll, joining No. 12 Missouri and No. 18 Tennessee. Florida is also receiving votes to be ranked (No. 31)
Alabama will return to action on Tuesday night (ESPN, 6 p.m. CT) when it hosts Kentucky inside Coleman Coliseum. It will mark the second meeting this season between the teams, with the Tide taking an 85-65 victory over the Wildcats back on Jan. 12.
