HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The inaugural South Star Festival was canceled after just one day due to unsafe conditions at the venue. Organizers made the decision following heavy rain over the weekend and the previous day’s foot traffic, which turned the grounds at John Hunt Park into a muddy mess.
An inspection with city representatives confirmed that the site was not safe for continued festivities. As a result, festival organizers decided to pull the plug on the event.
To improve future festivals, organizers are seeking feedback through a survey being sent to attendees. If you attended the festival, check your email for the survey. “Each year, we want to make your experience even better. We can't control the weather, but we can control most everything else, so we want to hear from you,” said the South Star Festival organizers. “Weather aside, we want to know what you loved and what we can improve on for the next festival.”
Organizers also invited the community to share who they would like to see perform at the next South Star Festival.
For those who lost items during the festival, a lost and found is available. People can file a claim for their belongings on the Liff App website.
