For the last decade, Brett Jones has worked with the Scottsboro Fire Department. “The guys I’m with now, we pretty much know what each other’s doing when we step off the truck,” he says.
John Henagar is a Batalion Chief in Scottsboro. He says Jones is always dedicated to the job. “If I go to Brett and ask him to do something, he’s always willing to step in there and help any way he can.”
Jones says he didn’t plan on putting on that fire suit when he was a child. It’s just something he fell in to. “Started out enjoying helping people,” he says. “So, I kind of started out with the Volunteer.”
When he was 18, he says there was a wreck in his small community of Pleasant Groves. That’s when he realized he needed to be involved.
“Where I come from it’s neighbors helping neighbors. So, we kinda, went to check on everyone and fire department showed up and I got involved a little bit with helping with it then. And it just kind of started from there,” says Jones.
What started there has evolved into Jones leading the Pleasant Grove Department as the volunteer fire chief. “He does love this job. And, like I said, in his community, he’s real good as his volunteer department. I know he does a lot of outside things there,” says Henegar.
So, when he’s not working as a fire fighter, he’s volunteering as a fire fighter to keep our communities safe. And because of that dedication and hard work, Brett Jones is the Valley’s First Responder.
