MADISON COUNTY, Ala. – Out on patrol in Madison County, Deputy Morris Collick gets a routine call of a house alarm. As he gets the all clear, he heads back to his patrol car.

Sgt. Cody Davis says Collic is a “very proactive deputy, very reliable.” Davis says, “I refer to him as the gentle giant.”

“You have to treat everybody with respect,” says Collick. “So, anybody that I meet, if they’re getting arrested, I don’t judge them, because it could be me.”

Deputy Collick says he learned how to treat others during his five years working in corrections in the Madison County Jail. “You’re by yourself on that floor, and you’re by yourself, then you learn how to respect other folks,” he says. “If not, you end up on the wrong side of the floor.”

Now, he carries that experience out on patrol. “I’ve been here 18 years, on the patrol side for 13 and I’ve been on the same shift ever since,” says Collick.

His supervisor says that dedication is reflected in his work. “He takes a lot of pride and he really loves the community.”

“There’s not too many people that can say they love where they work at. And I love where I work at.”

And for that pride and dedication to the job, Deputy Morris Collick is the Valley’s First Responder.
