At the old Johnson High School, you’ll now find the Public Safety Training Academy for the city of Huntsville. That’s also where you’ll find Officer Karl Kissich.

“This is where I spend a whole bunch of my time,” he says.

Kissich is the Huntsville Police Department’s first full-time recruiter. “We wanted to expand and attract more of those high caliber individuals to the department.”

It’s a fairly new gig for Kassich, who’s been with the department for more than 10 years. He’s a former Marine, who ended up in Huntsville after a deployment.

“Frankly, I ended up running into one of these Southern Belles, while I was doing some training out at the Arsenal. She is now my wife of 15 or 16 years.”

After he moved to Huntsville full-time, a police recruiter approached Kissich about joining the force. “It just seemed like that think that I was missing in life, that I needed to push forward and do.”

Now, he takes that passion for service and uses it to find other men and women willing to put in the hard work to serve the city of Huntsville.
