“I meant to add in there that I love my job. I don’t know if I said that,” says Officer Ruby Jewell as we wrapped her interview.
There’s no doubt Officer Ruby Jewell loves what she does. “I think I was born to be a police officer. It’s not just a job or a career for me. It’s who I am,” she says.
It was about a year and a half ago that Officer Jewell joined the Madison Police Department as a patrol officer. “I started out working security, she says. “Then I worked at the jail as a corrections officer. And now I’m a police officer, something I’ve always wanted to do. “
Her supervisor says she’s already making a difference. Lt. Clint Harrell says, “she’s really helped to improve the safety of the streets of Madison.”
Community policing is where Officer Jewell shines. She says it was her Christian upbringing that taught her how to serve and protect.
“My grandma taught me that life is about serving other people,” says Jewell.
Herrell says, “She’s a good problem solver. She likes to get out and talk to people about what their problems are and offer them solutions on how to solve their problems.”
Because of her dedication to the job and her love for her community, Officer Ruby Jewell is the Valley’s First Responder.
