HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The City of Huntsville is offering several convenient options to allow Huntsville business owners to renew their operating licenses for 2022.

An online license system is now available for new and renewing businesses to apply for a commercial- or residential-based business license digitally. By visiting HuntsvilleAL.gov/BusinessLicense, citizens can save both time and money for businesses and taxpayers.

The deadline to renew a business license for 2022 is Monday, Jan. 31.

“As we grapple with the latest spike in COVID-19, we encourage everyone to use the digital process instead of renewing in-person,” said City Clerk-Treasurer Ken Benion. “Doing so keeps both your business representatives and our licensing staff safe as we process thousands of renewal applications throughout the month.”

For those unable to apply online, three additional options are available:

  • Mail the business license form to the Clerk Treasurer’s office, postmarked by Jan. 31.
  • Apply in-person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the 1st floor conference room of the Public Services Building, 320 Fountain Circle. Partitioned kiosks will be spread out in the room and staff will be available to accept forms, checks and credit card payments.
  • Drop off renewal form and payment (check or money order) in the drop box in the lobby of City Hall, 308 Fountain Circle.

For more information on business license laws, search Huntsville’s municipal codes and ordinances for laws on business licenses and taxes.
