Update (2:30 p.m. 8/26)
On Saturday, Aug. 24, around 12:30 p.m., deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 200 block of Barberry Lane for a report of a domestic dispute. According to police, multiple 911 calls were places from the home prior to the deputies’ arrival.
When deputies arrived at the residence, the 16-year-old offender was outside of the home and was taken into custody without incident. Deputies then entered the home and found the victims, Chad Wanca, 43, and Hunter Wanca, 12. Both suffered gunshot wounds. HEMSI transported both victims to the hospital; Chad Wanca passed away shortly after arriving to the hospital. Hunter is still reported to be in serious condition.
The offender, who is Chad Wanca’s son, was arrested and charged, as an adult, with Murder and Attempted Murder and booked into the Madison County Jail. The investigation is ongoing; updates will be made as they become available.

We now know the names of the victims from Saturday evening’s shooting. Authorities confirm 43-year-old Chad Wanca was shot to death. They say 12-year-old Hunter Wanca was shot and critically injured. They say Chad is the father of the suspect and that Hunter is the suspect’s brother.
The suspect was arrested after Madison County authorities interviewed him.

An investigation is underway into a shooting that killed an adult and injured a juvenile in Toney.
Authorities in Madison County say a juvenile has been arrested as an adult for murder and attempted murder. The shooting happened last night in the 200 block of Barberry Lane. Authorities responded after getting calls about a domestic dispute. They arrived to find a juvenile walking out of the home with his hands up and found an adult shot to death inside the home and another juvenile shot, who was left in critical condition.
Authorities say the three involved were immediate family members. Identities are not being released until the family has been notified.
