Alabama and Tennessee officers launch campaign against drinking and driving

“Hands Across the Border” is an effort by Alabama and Tennessee officers to show that you will get arrested if you drink and drive.

Two state law enforcement agencies join forces Friday to stop deaths caused by drinking and driving.

“Hands Across the Border” is an effort by Alabama and Tennessee officers to show that you will get arrested if you drink and drive. Tennessee officers want you to know Tennessee is now a hands-free state so don’t be on your phone.

You shouldn’t be driving distracted anyways and officers remind you to always wear your seat belt.

“I’ve often heard people say when they see crosses they slow down a little bit because they don’t want that to be them,” said Trooper Curtis Summervile with ALEA. “They’re sad to see but they do serve two purposes. If they can encourage people to slow down and not drink and drive and seat belts is a big thing for us.”

The event kicks off Friday at 8:00 p.m. with a sobriety checkpoint on Huntsville Highway.
