An Alabama senator is bringing a pretty taboo topic to the floor for discussion. He says porn is a “public health emergency” and is calling for change.
Senator Dan Roberts, R-Mountain Brook, introduced a resolution recognizing pornography to be a public health emergency.
The Alabama legislature went into session earlier this week. Senator Roberts’ resolution passed a voice vote and is now being sent to the House for consideration.
We looked into the numbers and they might shock you.
According to statistics from Google and PornHub, a popular pornography site, Alabama ranks in the top 10 states with the most online searches for porn.
Alabama comes in at number 9.
We spoke to Monretta Vega, a Counselor at Huntsville Psychotherapy and Counseling, who has worked with individuals battling porn and sex addiction. She tells us this habit could become an addiction quicker than you might think.
Monretta Vega tells our reporter, “When we talk about porn… A lot of times, it can become consuming. And if it is consuming so many hours of your week or so many hours of your day, it’s important that you become aware of the impact. And then go and speak to someone who you feel will support you.”
The top ranking states according to this study?
Mississippi tops the list at number one– followed by West Virginia New Mexico and Oklahoma.
