It was a full house at the district one town hall meeting tonight. It was held at the new H.C. Blake Company location in North Huntsville. Many of the people in the crowd say they’re excited for the future of district one.
A district one resident said, “Devyn has got so many things in the pipeline for Huntsville, and with this establishment, the Jim Batson, there’s more to come. As a resident of the community, I’ve seen changes that are taking place.”
Councilman Devyn Keith says dirt is moving in North Huntsville.
A new library is coming to the area, and construction is set to begin on Councill High School Park.
The new park will sit where the William Hooper Councill High School once stood and serve as a memorial for the school, which was the first public school in Huntsville for African-American students.
Phase one of Councill High School Park will cost about $1.4 million and should be complete by next may.
The old Johnson High School is also coming down to be redone as a membership-only facility with rock climbing walls and other community areas.
Councilman Keith says they’re also working on tearing down vacant buildings and making North Huntsville more visibly appealing.
Residents believe these changes will help their property values go up.
