If you see a child carrying around a blue pumpkin candy bucket this year, it could mean the person is Autistic.

Sometimes people with Autism may be non-verbal or appear to be older. If a child is trick-or-treating with a blue candy bucket, it’s a reminder to be patient with them.

Parents of kids with Autism say the blue buckets can let people know their child still wants to trick-or-treat, even if they’re not comfortable saying it.

Todd Tomerlin with the Autism Society of Alabama said, “Some of us older folks might go ‘you can’t have any candy until you say trick or treat,’ and obviously if our child’s non-verbal or doesn’t really know how to communicate that, they’re not going to.”

Inquiring Minds is giving out the blue pumpkin buckets for free right now.
