HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — More services are coming to the Hampton Cove courtesy of the Huntsville-Madison County Library! Library cardholders can request library books, movies, and other materials online through the library’s website and have them delivered for pickup to the new locker inside the recreation center located at 429 Taylor Rd, Owens Crossroads. When patrons are done with their items, they can easily return them to the locker for check-in.
The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library partnered with the City of Huntsville Parks and Recreation, City Council Member Frances Akridge, and GrowCove to expand access to library books and materials in Hampton Cove with a new automated self-service library holds locker at the Mark Russell Recreation Center.
The Hampton Cove area is a quickly growing community with a population close to 20,000 and over 6,000 households. It is located nine miles from the closest library branch location. The remote library holds locker provides access to library materials in a safe, convenient location that is open for extended hours. This makes it accessible to patrons beyond the library’s current scope of service. The locker will increase the opportunity for the community to connect with the public library to support their educational and recreational needs.
“We are so excited to make HMCPL services more accessible to the Hampton Cove community with this new library holds locker,” said Cindy Hewitt, HMCPL’s Executive Director. “One of HMCPL’s goals is to contribute to our community’s quality of life. This holds locker does just that by giving the Hampton Cove community a convenient opportunity to connect with their Public Library.”
“This is a great partnership, providing additional services to our community,” said Parks and Recreation Director James Gossett. “Parks and Recreation is always proud to work with HMCPL. We invite everyone to visit Mark Russell Recreation Center and see the result for themselves.”
Funding for the Library holds locker was made possible through the 2022 Alabama Public Library Service Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant. The funds are provided to the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
