HAZEL GREEN, Ala. — Alabama is no stranger to food insecurity. In fact, 1 in 6 Alabamians doesn't know where their next meal is coming from, making them food insecure.
In order to combat food insecurity, many nonprofits help feed those in need, and one of those nonprofits is One Generation Away.
One Generation Away and First Baptist Church Hazel Green will hold a food distribution for individuals and families in need on Saturday, Feb. 26th.
This event will be free, and no questions will be asked to those who show up. If anyone is in need of food for the upcoming week, then they can come and pick up fresh, high-quality produce, dry and canned goods, and packaged goods with no registration necessary.
This drive-thru distribution event will take place from 9-11:00 a.m. at Hazel Green High School, which is located on 14380 US-231, Hazel Green, AL 35750. Those who plan on attending the event to receive food are encouraged to come early, as it will be first come, first served.
In addition, these events are great volunteer opportunities for anybody or any family who wants to help make a difference in their communities. Volunteers are needed to help sort food, load groceries into cars, and, if they are comfortable with doing so, praying with individuals and families. Depending on the job, volunteers will work from 7-11:30 a.m.
One Generation Away holds one food distribution in North Alabama every month throughout the year. For more information about upcoming distributions, visit their website here.
