Florence man fights police during arrest

According to Florence Police Department, Justin Heath Terry was charged with robbery and additional charges after physically resisting arrest.

FLORENCE, Ala. — Florence Police Department has arrested a man for multiple charges after fighting with police. 42-year-old, Justin Heath Terry was charged with the following: 

  • Robbery 3rd
  • Theft of Property 1st
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Mischief 3rd

According to Florence Police Department, they received a report of a robbery and theft of a vehicle where Terry was found in the car that was stolen. Chief Ron Tyler and Officer Robert Oliver tried arresting Terry but then he began fighting them in the lobby of the police department. During the fight, Terry was eventually taken into custody. 

“I never liked being punched in the face when I was younger. I was quickly reminded again of why I was never too fond of it.” Chief Ron Tyler said, “I was literally emailing HR earlier today with some preliminary retirement questions. I never imagined I would wind up in a fistfight before the day was out.”

FPD has stated that no serious injuries occurred during the incident and no medical treatment was required

“Aside from my sport coat and dress shirt getting a little bloody, none of us are too worse for the wear," Chief Tyler said. 

The Criminal Mischief charge was added on to the list of charges due to a hole being made in the drywall of the headquarters. Terry is held on a $33,500.00 bond at the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
