DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — A man accused of attempting to kidnap a child near a Piggly Wiggly in Collinsville was arrested by DeKalb County authorities.

The incident happened on Friday, September 27, when Collinsville Police were called to the area of Piggly Wiggly and Rains Court Apartments after an attempted child abduction was reported. Officers said they spoke with the juvenile victim and family members, while DeKalb County investigators arrived to assist. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect.

Two days later, on Sunday, September 29, Collinsville Police responded to an unrelated call at an apartment complex on Truman Lane. During the call, an officer noticed that one of the individuals on scene matched the description of the suspect from the attempted abduction.

DeKalb County investigators identified the man as 29-year-old Cordell Quenton Brand of Gadsden. He was initially arrested for illegal possession of prescription drugs and taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center.

Following an interview with investigators, Brand was confirmed as the suspect who had grabbed the child on September 27. Brand now faces an additional charge of second-degree unlawful imprisonment and is awaiting a bond hearing for that charge.

Brand's bond for the drug possession charge was set at $1,500.
