HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A 38-year-old fugitive from Georgia is being held in Madison County pending extradition on a charge of murder and other felony counts.
Mario Rene Lopez-Jolon is accused of shooting to death a Gwinnett County, Ga., man in early July. Neighbors discovered the body of 40-year-old Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez, dead inside his truck.
He had been shot.
Lopez-Jolon was taken into custody Friday at a hotel in Huntsville. Charges include malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies.
FOX54's sister station in Atlanta, WXIA TV, spoke with the victim's widow, who said she last saw her husband when he left for work at a tree-cutting service. His supervisor told her he never showed up.
Rodriguez was a father to two young children.
Investigators believe the incident was the culmination of a dispute over land in Mexico.
