HPD makes arrest in deadly Meridian Street shooting

One person died, another was critically wounded in the Oct. 12 incident.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The HPD Major Crimes Unit has arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a weekend shooting that left one person dead and critically injured a second.

Jordan Latrell Smith was booked into the Madison County Jail Wednesday afternoon on a reckless murder charge related to the nighttime incident on Oct. 12 at a gas station in the 3300 block of Meridian Street.

An officer who was in the area heard "multiple shots" and was one of several HPD officers to respond to the scene.

The shooting took the life of Damien Obrien Manning, 22. A second man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

There has been no indication of what led to the shooting.
