Inmate escapes transport in Franklin County, search underway

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for inmate Tony Sweeton after he escaped custody on Nov. 20 near Highway 127.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tenn. — Police are actively searching for an inmate who escaped while being transported through Franklin County.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, 23-year-old Tony Jameson Sweeton escaped at the intersection of Highway 127 and Wattendorf Highway on November 20 while handcuffed and is believed to be hiding in a wooded area nearby.

Law enforcement from Coffee and Franklin Counties, along with state and local agencies, have set up a perimeter as they search for Sweeton. 

He is described as a white male, 5'7", 155 pounds, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and tattoos on his face and neck, wearing a white t-shirt and black-and-white striped pants. Sweeton faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and statutory rape.
