HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The University of Alabama System expressed gratitude for Birmingham-Southern College’s contributions during its 168 years of operation, following the announcement of the college's closure.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the University of Alabama System pledged full support to Birmingham-Southern students during this period of transition, ensuring they have the opportunity to continue their education within the state while maintaining high academic standards. As part of this commitment, an expedited transfer process will be offered to all eligible students currently enrolled at Birmingham-Southern College.
The expedited transfer process will be available across all UA System campuses, including The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Application fees will be waived for Birmingham-Southern students applying for transfer, and their applications will undergo expedited review and credit transfer processing, if eligible.
According to the University of Alabama system, each institution will work individually with accepted students to help with financial aid packages. UA System campuses will maximize transfer credits for Birmingham-Southern students. Academic advisors and program personnel will work together with students to ensure their credits are applied appropriately to their chosen degree programs.
Deadlines will be adjusted as needed to accommodate affected students. Birmingham-Southern students interested in transferring to a UA System institution are encouraged to start the transfer process as soon as possible.
