LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — The Limestone County Economic Development Association and Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce have opened up a new opportunity with the launch of their 2024 scholarship program, following the successful distribution of $18,000 in awards last year. Funding for these scholarships is sourced from LCEDA's annual golf tournament at Canebrake Club and a Night Out at Toyota Field, hosted jointly by the Chamber and LCEDA.
Bethany Shockney, President & CEO of Limestone County Economic Development Association, highlights how this initiative addresses local workforce development needs. “This funding allows companies to invest in their future workforce by awarding scholarships to local high school seniors and individuals returning for further education,” Shockney said. “Witnessing individuals achieve their aspirations and secure well-paying jobs in Limestone County is truly gratifying.”
Pammie Jimmar, President of Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce, also highlighted how this aligns with one of the Chamber's core missions of promoting workforce development and education. “Together with our job shadowing and educational partnerships, providing financial support for students to obtain their degrees is crucial in retaining talent in Athens and Limestone County,” Jimmar said.
These scholarships are aimed at residents of Limestone County pursuing degrees in advanced manufacturing, construction, healthcare, or information technology. Apply online here by March 22, 2024.
