TRINITY, Ala. — This week’s Top Teacher had no clue what she was in for. Most of our Top Teacher’s don’t.
However, it’s the first time we’ve witnessed a school surprise in such a grand way! Students teachers and staff decided to surprise her during her lunch period.
Meet this week’s Top Teacher, Christina Breland, from West Morgan High School!
“It really doesn't feel like a job. It is just a wonderful place to be and I want to go every day,” said Breland.
Breland has taught English for thirteen years teaching high school students. “I just felt that's where God wanted me to be to be that inspiration to students who were getting ready to enter the real world.”
One student getting ready to enter the real world is happy to have her twice!
“I was assigned, but a lot of seniors didn't get here this year, so I feel very lucky getting there because I love her. She makes English so fun,” said Heaven Puryear.
Breland’s principal Mike Johnson, sees the joy too. “Really, for her, it's a calling and you know, you can tell when teachers are called into this profession,” said Johnson.
“The joy that comes from what she does is evident every day but her attitude, her work ethic, her professionalism, and how she interacts with the staff and students,” he added.
Johnson says it’s her calling, and we’re sure Breland would agree too.
“Being a teacher is probably my second favorite job outside of being a wife and a mother but being with my students every day, and working with them and talking to them and seeing them grow and light up that that makes it worth it.”
