HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — We visit a school centered on the arts; theater, writing, music, you name it! It’s a creative space that makes it easy for one fifth-grade teacher.
Meet fifth grade teacher Lisa Snodgrass, from Academy for Academic & Arts, also known as ‘AAA’. The person who nominated her say she represents AAA all the way!
“I do what I do because I have the passion for my students. I love teaching. I've always loved teaching,” said Snodgrass.
She teaches subjects including math, reading, science, social studies and technology. She does it with a bit of flair too!
Snodgrass uses music to motivate her students. “I just love it, just being able to integrate all the arts into the science and the math and the reading. Because, you know, sometimes you have struggling students, but they can get it through a song or through a rap.”
Huntsville City Schools has been home for Snodgrass for 11 years.
“She is an institution in this building and we could not do it without her,” said Principal Dr. Evelyn Coffey.
According to Coffey, Snodgrass is a treasure too. “She is a jewel and we are so incredibly lucky to have her. Not only is she an incredible fifth grade teacher, she is a musician inside and outside of the school. All of us have a vested interest in the arts and making sure that our students are getting to experience all of the things that come along with being an artist.”
Snodgrass hopes to prepare her fifth-graders for the next level of learning, but life too.
“So I just want my fifth graders to be productive students in the world, as you know, in the world as well as in school, just to be a whole person.”
