MADISON, Ala. — We're back with a new Top Teacher! This one we're about to meet has a heart for education. He's an ace at what he teaches, and to many he would be considered a Jack of all trades!
His name is Hiram Holt, and he is FOX54’s Top Teacher of the week from Discovery Middle School in Madison!
"I'm a third generation educator and it's kind of in my blood," said Holt.
Here’s a look at what it’s like teaching in his Geography class. “So we're teaching landforms today…They are creating as many landforms as they can with Rice Krispie treats and molding them and using starbursts to create lava for a volcano and icing for a glacier to just have a little bit more fun with,” said Holt.
Geography is one of the many subjects he teaches middle-schoolers. “U.S. History, Civics. I teach whatever they ask me to teach.”
He teaches World History, too. Becoming an educator is in his blood and began in Indiana.
“I worked for the Indiana Senate and helped draft legislation. I worked for some colleges, where I got the education bug,” said Holt.
“He’s an all-in teacher. He is a relationship builder, connector. You'll see that today. He does a tremendous job for our students,” said Principal Jamie Hill
Holt said he’s learned a bit as a teacher in the three years he’s been here. "Sometimes education can fire you up and sometimes it can burn you out, and moments like that [support] are really important for firing people up."
“But it always comes down to caring for the kids and loving on them as much as they possibly can and trying to engage them with whatever their skill set is.”
