MADISON, Ala. — Meet this week's Top Teacher, Kathy Crutcher, second grade teacher from Madison Elementary School!
Crutcher has been a teacher there for nearly three decades. “This is my 29th year as an educator at Madison Elementary.”
Crutcher has been teaching there since before Madison City Schools was created. In fact, this school is historic. For Crutcher, Madison Elementary School is the first of Madison City Schools for more reasons than one. "Just the first place that I interviewed and my principal at the time and I hit it off and has been here ever since."
She's been counting the years and counting with students. “This time of year. We're really into money and counting, money and coins.”
Crutcher is praised for her nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
“We're playing this game with coins where we pretend we have a store and they have to show me the amount that they're going to purchase the different things from the store.”
Her principal, Jamie Golliver says Crutcher holds a special place in this school. “Well-deserved, Mrs. Crutcher. Somebody who always puts her students' needs first. And she's just a wonderful part of the fabric that makes up our school and just so proud of her and happy for her,” said Golliver.
“Sometimes school is the place where [students] can just be kids and feel like they're a part of something.” Crutcher is motivated by her students, each day she walks in Madison Elementary School. "The thing that motivates me most are the 21 little bodies are sitting in my classroom."
