FYFFE, Ala. — For the past 20 years, Mrs. Missy Mitchell has called Fyffe High School her home. Reading is an adventure to her, and sharing that world of adventures is what she feels called to do.
"I love to read, I have always loved to read," smiles Mrs. Missy Mitchell, the Valley's Top Teacher. "I love putting a book in a child's hand and seeing their eyes light up, and know that is the book for them."
Mrs. Mitchell is the Library Media Specialist at Fyffe High School. Not only does she want kids to fall in love with reading, she says the most important thing is that her kids feel welcomed, loved, and respected.
In past years, kids could gather in the library and Mrs. Mitchell could just love on them, so this year has been hard. But Mrs. Mitchell has stepped up to the plate in a big way. She has been the technology contact this year and made sure kids could do virtual school from home when needed.
"She is just an awesome team player that is always willing to go the extra mile to do whatever she can to help our students and help our faculty," shares Principal Wayne Lyles.
Mrs. Mitchell loves to see the joy that books bring to kids and believes the knowledge they can gain from books is limitless. She says for kids who may not be able to travel, they can experience different destinations through books!
"I always love reading and envision being there, regardless of time period or place, and I think our students have that opportunity, as well," explains Mrs. Mitchell.
She says seeing her kids smile means everything to her. She feels like God called her to being a teacher at Fyffe High School and says she is right where she is supposed to be.
"She has children that go to school here and she has so much invested," says Principal Lyles. "You can definitely tell that by the efforts she puts into her job."
"I love our students, I love this community, our faculty - they have all given back and put so much time into these kids and that is our future and I want to promote that," shares Mrs. Mitchell.
