HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Tasha Hodgens is a fifth grade science teacher at Monrovia Elementary School in Huntsville.
Mrs. Hodges was surprised that she was nominated, but her students and administrators say she's always working hard for her students.
"I just do my job, I love my kids... they're why I'm here," Mrs. Hodgens explained.
She does more than teach fifth-grade science. Her goal is to impact lives. Mrs. Hodgens taught one of her students, Kennedy Frye's, older sister and cousins.
"My cousin and my sister had her back when they were in fifth grade," Frye said. "They told me all about her. They told me that Mrs. Hodgens is funny and kind."
Mrs. Hodgens has been teaching at Monrovia Elementary for eighteen years and some of her students even had her when she taught third grade.
"I've known Mrs. Hodgens since second grade when I made a presentation and I showed it to her class and then I got her in third grade and she's been my favorite teacher." Fifth Grader Makayla Murray said.
