The FBI is bringing 1,350 jobs to Huntsville. The agency is expanding its presence at Redstone Arsenal.
The FBI already has a large presence at at Redstone Arsenal. This major expansion will make the arsenal an extremely powerful campus.
“This is all part of Senator Shelby’s plan,” said Mayor Tommy Battle.
The plan is for the FBI to build a large operations support building at Redstone Arsenal, bringing hundreds of jobs to Huntsville.
“The new building will accommodate about another 1,300 people,” Battle added. The expansion will relocate employees from the FBI’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.
“Sixty to 70 percent of the FBI workers are located in Washington, D.C. now, and now they’re moving to decentralize the FBI. It’s great news for Huntsville, great news for Redstone Arsenal,” Battle continued.
The FBI currently has 300 employees working on its two Redstone Arsenal campuses. The new building will accommodate special agents, intelligence analysts and professional staff. And will house operations support divisions, that play a critical role in supporting the FBI’s mission of protecting Americans.
“You’ve got 1,300 people moving here, making $80,000 a year, that adds about $100 million to our economy. That is a big input to the day-to-day amount that comes in to the economy of Huntsville, Alabama,” Battle said.
The operations support building is expected to be ready in early 2021. The FBI will also complete construction of its ballistics research facility at Redstone Arsenal next spring.
