Sunday, Florence celebrated the city’s history with Frontier Days, as part of the city’s bicentennial celebration. People gathered at Pope’s Tavern to celebrate Florence. Food, music, weaving, and axe throwing were part of the event — all meant to reflect the period of the early frontier days of Florence.
“All you’re seeing here — the vendors and what they are selling here — would have been things that were needed during that time — from 1800 to about 1820,” said Wayne Higgins.
Florence was established in 1818. Pope’s Tavern was one of the city’s first buildings.
