HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — With the Pfizer vaccine expected to arrive in Huntsville tomorrow, WZDX News has a look at what the upcoming days and weeks could look like after its arrival from leaders with 'Operation Warp Speed'.
"In total 636 sites nationwide, with 145 sites expected to receive vaccine today, 425 tomorrow, and 66 sites on Wednesday," says U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services, Alex Azar, II.
These are the numbers from Operation Warp Speed leaders on the first batch of Pfizer vaccines. Huntsville Hospital will be of those 425 sites to receive the vaccine tomorrow.
"We know that shipments for tomorrow's deliveries have already been packed and checked, and we will be managing those to include Wednesday's shipment," says Operation Warp Speed Chief Operating Officer, Gen. Gustave Perna.
Leaders with Operation Warp Speed say there will be additional shipments from FedEx and UPS throughout the week.
"We have already identified the follow on orders for Pfizer vaccine, and there will be an additional 581 shipments that will continue on beyond Wednesday, Thursday, Friday through the weekend in delivery to the American people," says Perna.
Meanwhile, leaders are preparing for the Moderna vaccine as we await the 'Emergency Use Authorization' (EUA) from the FDA this week.
"We know that we're going to ship just a little bit short of six million doses out to the American people. And we're shipping it to 3,285 locations," says Perna.
"This week, probably tomorrow, the booklet for VRBPAC review for the Moderna vaccine, will be made public," says Operation Warp Speed Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Moncef Slaoui.
Leaders with Operation Warp Speed say they will continue to provide the country with future forecasts from next week to the following six weeks for planning.
"Each Friday from here on out, we will announce new weekly allocations of vaccines," added Azar.
