'World Health Day' honors nurses and widwives

Nurses and midwives are some of the health care workers on the frontlines of COVID-19

MADISON, Ala. — April 7th is 'World Health Day' and this year's theme is recognizing nurses and midwives.

The day is pushed by the World Health Organization.

Nurses make up more than half the number of health workers. Nurses at Heritage Assisted Living & Memory Care in Madison says it takes a team effort to care for patients.

"These are my friends. I count on these guys. They're going to have my back. We protect each other. So, we're here. We're family, and that's what we consider us here with all my staff. All of our staff. We are a family," says Heritage Assisted Living & Memory Care Director of Nursing, Betsy Walker.

There are more than 20 million nurses and midwives worldwide.
