Two HEMSI first responders who have now recovered from COVID-19 share experiences

These co-workers were seemingly healthy people, but this virus does not only attack those who are immunocompromised

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Two paramedics employed at Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. beat COVID-19 recently. One of those paramedics, David Drake explains that this virus does not discriminate and when it comes to the severity of the symptoms, it chooses people at random. That no matter your age, or lack of health concerns, people should be taking this virus seriously.

"Wash your hands, wear your masks, stay away from crowded areas, because you could be a 70-year-old with COPD and a heart condition and you could be fine, or you could be a 21-year-old body builder and it could end up putting you in the hospital or worse, it can kill you," said David Drake, paramedic, HESMI.

Both Drake, and co-worker Jean Humphrey said it all started with a tickle in their throat. They also talked about how they had a lack of health concerns but still fell victim to the virus.
