The Huntsville International Airport is getting closer to becoming one of the only landing strips in the world for a private space craft, the Dream Chaser.
The airport’s executive director told WZDX News that officials recently met to kick off the pre-application process to make Huntsville’s the first commercial airport to land a space craft. Right now they’re in phase two of the application process.
“We anticipate that to move through the pipeline and ultimately get approval from the FAA to be able to land the Dream Chaser,” said Rick Tucker.
Officials say landing the Dream Chaser here would make the city a magnet to commercial space companies. They’d have immediate access to their products coming from the International Space Station.
