Huntsville Police Department unveiled another drug drop-off location at the North Precinct Monday afternoon.
The department says all precincts now have drop-off locations. The one unveiled Monday was assisted by the group known as Extension.
Extension works as an educational platform for students interested in learning more about environmental issues. Their focus with the dropbox was to keep expired or unused drugs from being flushed into our waterways.
“We take them and actually burn them and dispose of them properly and we don’t put them back in our eco system,” said Huntsville Police Chief Mark McMurray.
According to Chief McMurray, they see a lot of home break-ins that are a result of teens looking for drugs.
“One pill can go for five to ten dollars,” he said.
Associate Director of Extension said it’s hard to stay in control of the issue. She hopes this dropbox can be a step in the right direction.
“We hate to say this, but individuals always seem to find a way to get the products that we want to keep from them because they are just not good for them,” said Dr. Celvia Stovall.
To drop off your unused or expired prescription drugs, just find the nearest location and drop them off.
