DECATUR, Ala. — A two-car crash on Saturday night at 11:47 p.m. in Decatur has left a 16-year-old girl dead and five others injured. The crash happened at 8th St. SE and 9th Ave. SE. The drivers and four passengers were taken to Decatur-Morgan Hospital, where the teenager died from her injuries.
The 16-year-old was a student at Decatur High School and also attended Career Academies of Decatur. School Principal Jeremy Mitchell released the following statement:
"We have extra counselors on site today available for students and staff as needed. Counselors are also available at Career Academies of Decatur as she was a part-time student there as well. She was a great student who was well liked by her teachers and fellow students. She was involved in the Cosmetology program at CAD and was constantly working to better herself."
According to Decatur Police, the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
