2-year-old hospitalized after near-drowning in Arab; mother provides update

Arab Fire Department received the call around 7 p.m. on Monday near Almond Drive off Old Guntersville Road.

ARAB, Ala. — 2-year-old Violet Satterfield was airlifted to the hospital Monday night after officials responded to a possible drowning near Almond Drive off Old Guntersville Road. According to the Arab Fire Department, they received the call around 7 p.m. and arrived at the scene along with Arab Police, Marshall Health Systems Ambulance, and Four-C Volunteer Fire Department.

Shortly after their arrival, the Violet was transported by ambulance to Marshall Medical Center North and was airlifted to Children’s of Birmingham for treatment.

According to her mother's social media post, Violet has been stabilized and placed in hypothermic sleep to aid in healing her brain. As of Thursday morning, her mother reported minimal improvement. However, she noted that there's been a reduction in swelling in Violet’s hands, feet, and face due to massages of her extremities.

In Arab, Liberty Church hosted a vigil for 2-year-old Violet Satterfield on Tuesday. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Violet's medical expenses.
