ALABAMA, USA — As of Monday, November 2nd, 300,402 of the requested 331,104 absentee ballots in Alabama have been successfully returned.
If you're one of those who still has theirs, you don't have many options left.
The day before the election is the last day to hand deliver your absentee ballot. It had to be given back to the election managers office by the close of business on November 2nd.
If you missed your chance to return it in person, you still have the option to postmark it by November 2nd.
Alabama's Secretary of State John Merrill said, "You could mail your absentee ballot through a service that would make sure delivery was received no later than noon tomorrow to your absentee election manager, and if not, then you just have to realize that you had since September 9th to take care of that."
Alabama absentee voters do not have the option to hand deliver their ballots on election day, so if the mail man is running late and it isn't delivered by noon on November 3rd, your vote will not be counted.
If you're worried that it may arrive late, you can still vote in person at your polling place on election day. You will just have to vote using a provisional ballot.
"Provisional ballots are always counted the following Friday and then the report is given to the office of the Secretary of State by each county on Tuesday following the election," said Merrill.
If you have already returned your absentee ballot and want to check that it made it to the election managers office, you can track its status on alabamavotes.gov. Click here to check your voter information.
If you check and it says it's incomplete, it unfortunately will not be counted.
"There is no way to cure your ballot if you did not follow the directions or the instructions related to the administration of the process using an absentee ballot," Merrill said.
